Lessons in Evandalism US tour: Advance notice
I am starting to plan a tour of the US that will take place in January/February 2009. The aim of the tour is two-fold. Firstly, I am keen to present some of my latest thinking in the form of sermons, seminars, workshops and facilitated discussions. This work will be expressed in two forthcoming books, but I am looking forward to giving people a chance to hear it, wrestle with it and challenge it before it comes out in print. Secondly the tour is designed to help raise some money for my ongoing work with ikon.
The tour will be starting at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan on the 27th January and will finish up in New York City on the 20th February.
If possible I am keen find a mix of universities, seminaries, churches and conferences to work with and can offer anything from a 5-minute children’s address to a week of in-depth seminars, workshops and facilitated discussions.
I will be sending official feelers around the blogosphere in the next few weeks but wanted to give advance notice of my plans for those who read my blog.
My plan is to find some speaking engagements close to Calvin College to start with and then slowly make my way towards New York City. So if you are interested in having me speak then please drop a line to Alyson McElroy.

Peter,
I’m looking forward to you coming to Grand Rapids. In fact, I’ve actually talked to a quite a few people who are looking forward to it. Good luck on the entire tour!

No love for the West Coast?!?! NOOOO!!!!

It’s a bit out of the way (from Calvin College to New York), but I think you should come to LA and speak at Fuller Seminary. We have a Wednesday chapel and you could speak there, or there are a variety of churches that would host you, like All Saints Episcopal or Lake Avenue.

Pete – Where are you speaking/staying in NYC? I know an intentional community that has a hospitality room in their house that I can connect you to see if they can house you — and can give you some emails if you need to put out feelers re a gig. Definitely plan some free time to chill. I am planning a lot of travel in 2009 but I “think” I’ll be around in February. Email me and we can talk.

Paul – My traveling would lead one to suspect that I have an irrational fear of the West Coast but it just seems that only East Coast people like my work! Not sure if it some literary version of an east coast/west coast hip hop rivalry with you guys siding with Driscoll
The long and short is I would love to do West Coast at some stage. I will be spending more time in the US for the next few years so lets make it happen!
Adam – I have some great friends in LA, including Barry Taylor from Fuller. The only concern is making sure I can afford to make the trip. It means I would need a few gigs there to cover flights. Could you see if there would be interest in Fuller and let Alyson know? I had a great time last year in LA when I visited.
Becky – Nothing booked in for NYC yet, so if you could email me some contacts who might be interested in me speaking I would really appreciate it! Thanks.

Oh just realised that LA is West Coast! I think I might be going to LA sometime next year so might try to extend my visit

I’ll try to make it up to Calvin in GR. I believe it’s about four hours north of where I’m at here in northern Indiana.

I’d like to book you for a children’s talk please. Something in fuzzy-felt on continental philosophers. For 5’s and under? Most of them incontinent, so much needed

Wouldn’t a postmodern philosophers prefer finger paint to fuzzy-felt or better yet, philosophical finger puppets so one can stick one’s finger into that place where people ponder.
Given the BS I’ve seen at academic conferences, I wonder if a theological or philosopher can ever be properly potty-trained.
pete – sent you an email – we can continue talking off blog.

Had Barry for Postmodern Theology last fall. Great guy. I’ll see what I can do about a Fuller contact and I’ll get back to you.
July 24th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Barry’s going to be at Greenbelt, so you can sort with him there.
July 24th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
Pete,
I’m not sure how long you are planning on staying in the Grand Rapids area, but have you looked into speaking at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary? It’s only a few miles from Calvin. If you need some contact info I can try to get that for you as I am starting to attend their this Fall.
I’m also not sure how you’ll be traveling but if you need a tour of the town, a bite to eat or whatever else please don’t hesitate to ask.
As other commentors mentioned, I would love to see a flannelgraph of your teachings for adults. I think the visual aid would help.

Peter,
Just to speak up for the west coast…I’m sitting in Bellingham, WA, reading the new book. It’s great, thanks so much. Maybe we’ll see you on another tour. We’re not all reading Driscoll up in the Northwest…

SWEET!!! I’ve been wanting to get to the Worship Symposium at Calvin College for a couple of years now…finding out that you’re going to be there has just pushed it over the top for me. count me in!

Any plans to come to the Boston, Mass area?
July 29th, 2008 at 2:45 am
Hey… will be in Boston in December. Not sure about Feb yet… just starting to plan the Lessons in Evandalism tour. If you anywhere that would want me to speak let me know!
July 29th, 2008 at 6:42 am
If possible, can you let me know what dates you have available and costs involved. I pastor a small urban transforming community and would love to work something out to have you engage with our people.
July 30th, 2008 at 2:58 am
Hey Jeff. Could you drop Alyson an email above? She looks after all that for me. Cheers

Absolutely–

Another West Coast request here. Once you’re done in LA, you should head up the coast to Portland and Seattle. I’m sure several seminaries and undergrads would embrace your work. I’m a DMin student at George Fox Seminary in Portland, but live in Seattle. I’d be happy to do what I can to make local connections for you. Drop me an e-mail if you’re interested.
August 3rd, 2008 at 5:40 am
Maybe you could write out Alyson’s e-mail. I’d like to contact her, but can’t open the link.
Maybe Messiah College near Harrisburg, PA?
August 5th, 2008 at 1:14 am
And here’s a plea from Reno, NV. Make a stop in Sacramento or SanFrancisco and I’ll have some people there!
August 7th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Peter, I’ll be at Calvin for sure, but you should consider speaking at Grand Valley State University (mostly because it’s my school). It’s in Grand Rapids, too. Also, if you need people to promote in the area, drop me a line.

Pete,
we’re talking with Alyson about flying you in to Birmingham (US, not UK) hopefully in Feb at Samford U. Keith Putt, phil prof and very good friend of Caputo’s, is hopeful about having you out. just talked with him. of course, our local emergent/c is excited as well. also, Nick and Josh (from the podcast) would love to have you pass through here. Birmingham’s close enough to the East Coast and emerging enough for some dialog. we’d love to show some Southern hospitality, bro…
btw, loving Fidelity–it’s stretching me.
August 8th, 2008 at 3:50 am
Hey priesthood… that sounds great. Will chat with Alyson and we can work on making it happen! The big issue is the cost of flights and carbon footprint, I am trying to do more things in the one place rather than all other the place to work on both of these.
Cheers

Glad you are coming to Richmond! Thank you!

[...] I was fortunate enough to attend. It wasn’t a scheduled speaking engagement or a part of his Lessons in Evandalism tour, just a talk given to a small group over lunch. I am familiar with Rollins’ work only [...]
