Moving to the US
As some of you are aware I have been making arrangements for some time now to move over to the US. Well everything has now been finalised and I will be leaving Belfast in mid October. This move has been made possible through the generosity of some individuals who are supportive of my work and who are keen to see it impact a wider audience. This is an amazing opportunity and one that I am going to throw myself into without reserve. But, of course, there is some fear and trembling as I pack my belongings and prepare to relocate. It goes without saying that there are people who I will miss, some whom I will miss very deeply. But, in addition to that, I am also having to leave my spiritual home: ikon.
While I am planning to visit home regularly and continue to contribute to ikon’s ongoing development, the reality that I will not be part of the weekly planning meetings is a hard one. Over the years some of those meetings have been tough, at other times they have been a lot of fun, but mostly they have been inspirational. The people who have been part of those meetings over the years have been among the most creative and talented people I have known, so not being a part of the team for a while will be difficult. But, on the plus side, ikon could be in no better hands.
The last ikon gathering before I go will be taking place on the 4th October at 18:00 in the Black Box. It is going to be an ikon::speaks event, which gives me the opportunity share some thoughts before I leave. My desire is to use this as an opportunity to reflect upon one of core values that informs so much of ikon’s practice. If you are in Belfast at that time I would love you to come along and share this important evening with me.

Agree with Joey – Where might you set up shop here in the states?
Agree with Jesse – PA can always use a bit ‘o gut-level change instigation.
Belfasters (Belfastrians? Belfastians?): We are grateful to you for letting us borrow him for a bit. Well, at least some of us. Most probably would rather he remains on the other side of the pond. I suppose they are ungrateful.

I had no clue you were headed here! Thats great news, for us I guess. Im still waiting on an update for the pub tour? Pleeeease come back to birmingham alabama. Recently picked up The Monstrosity of Christ and Christ in Postmodern philosophy. Loving both of them very much! I had never heard of Rene girard but I am enjoying the book. I cant say thanks enough Pete, Your work encourages me daily. You are in my prayers.

This is an incredibly exciting thing for us here in the States. I can’t wait to see (and be apart of) what will happen. In the US we have an abundance of leaders who love to lead – but we need those who will refuse it to help us from continuing to bang our heads against the walls of some really sick forms of Christianity.
Thanks to ikon for sharing the wealth.
If/when you’re ever in Columbus, Ohio there are a few of us with our sleeves rolled up who are good for a pint and a laugh.

I also feel some fear for you. But don’t forget how many people you encourage and inspire!
I’m going to be standing with you in the long now.

Would love to introduce you to our spiritual community of Christ followers here in NYC … Your bound to pass through here I’m sure … there is a song by a local band, Interpol, titled PDA with a chorus that mentions “we have 200 couches where you can sleep tight/dream right”… It is true – New York City has a place to sleep for all immigrants and a city scape that has always inspired us to “dream right” – always has and I hope it always will.
It would be an honor and a pleasure to meet you and share our dreams for this city. The church meets at The Blender theater on 23rd and we have smaller community groups at art spaces throughout the five boroughs. Safe travels and don’t forget to pack your smile!
