Quick update

Just thought I would write to let you know what I am up to. The Fidelity of Betrayal is now out. My third book is complete and will hopefully be hitting the bookshelves near the end of 2008 or early 2009 (title is likely to be The Orthodox Heretic) and, after a couple of very unproductive weeks, I have finally started my fourth book.

It has been my desire to create a theological triptych calling for a radical change in the way we approach faith. The first two parts being How (Not) to Speak of God and The Fidelity of Betrayal. The book that I have just begun is designed to complete it.

In addition to this I continue to be involved with the development of ikon, which has proved to be very exciting of late! I hope to write a little about our journey since How (Not)… in the new book.

This all makes me sound very productive, but in reality I have been spending a lot of time in coffee shops, watching Columbo and The Prisoner or enjoying the sun.

Promise a more interesting post next time!

Pete you are right on track with those pastimes!
Culombo was a philosopher if ever I saw one with his head tilted when asking the killer question on the way out the door.

Number 6 the Prisoner screaming out ‘I am not a number I am a man ‘ and trying to escape the Village but being chased by the big bubble – a parable of escaping from a controlling fundamentalist church if ever I heard one!

Enjoying the sun (the Son) enough said!

And finally drinking coffee – the postmodern equivalent of ‘ having fellowship’

You are well on the way Pete.

Best wishes for the new book and those to come.

    Charlie

Thanks Charlie :) The Prisoner is my current fav. TV (I am a little behind the times)

Great to see you the other night. would like to have chatted more but had to give a guy a lift home (after nearly causing him 3rd degree burns by spilling coffee over him)

You lazy bastard. Where’s your good Protestant work ethic? Get a proper job and stop sponging of the rest of us! Bourgeoisie theologians. WTFWJD? Spit, I’d say.

LOL. Hot Tub… I know who you are and jealously will get you nowhere. Think about me tomorrow as you get up for work at 7:00. I will be sleeping in a nice warm bed while you sit in traffic cursing your pitiful existence :)

hey pete – any chance of you posting your thoughts on the cupitt lecture? I went to the Dublin one last night and was just wondering what the reaction/interaction was like at the Belfast lecture.

    Hi Pete

Looking forward to reading “The Fidelity..”, and your new book.

I loved “How (Not)”! – it’s one of my favorite books on theology, and one of the few I have actually read more than once :)

I understand you’re into Zizek? I used him a lot writing my bachelor thesis on Christianity and consumerism. He’s so interesting! (and a little over my head sometimes).

I WALK TO WORK, YOU CARBON-MUNCHING MUNTER!

Your bed’s only warm because you eat yoghurt.

“The Prisoner” – best television ever. Our family watched the originals in the late 60’s – I was around 12 and enthralled with it. Be seeing you. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6gPztzkNMQ)

Pete … just startet reading “Fidelity …” and stumpled upon the idea of Jesus asking Judas to betray him.

Recently i have seen a play in Germany called “My Gospels” (Meine Evangelien) in which exactly that happens. The play is very close to the biblical text, but somehow manages to put Jesus’ words in a context that makes them sound like Jesus asks to be betrayed. Great play btw!

I just finished reading “The Fidelity of Betrayal” (I haven’t read your first book yet), and I just wanted to say that I think it is an amazing and fantastic book.
