Life before death

If you have the chance, I would recommend that you find a quiet place and take some time to reflect upon the following exhibition of photography by Walter Schels and his partner Beate Lakotta. These pictures record images and excerpts of interviews with people shortly before (and after) their death. It is a powerful and moving exhibition that evokes personal reflection upon the nature of human being. Life Before Death is currently being exhibited in London.

What to say? Moving. Very moving. I’m so very glad I’m loved. I hope I don’t die alone. But if I must, and if I still have my mental faculties about me, I hope I remember that I was loved. And I hope too that I can be always mindful that everyone, each and every one of us, has been made for love, to receive it and to give it. These images reminded me that my calling as an icon of God is to love. May God make me a better lover.

WOW!!!! So sad for many of them were still young. Left me feeling scared about my own mortality in light of my own health issues. Thanks, Pete, for posting about this. The photos themselves are very captivating and haunting.

Striking stuff. To me some of the subjects look happier dead than alive. but then I’ve always held to have no fear of death, being in need of a good lie down.
