God Joins the Army

If everything goes to plan the new book should be out in the US in a couple of days (UK release is June/July).

This book represents an attempt to overcome the split that sometimes operates between my message and the medium I use to communicate that message. As someone who is interested in recovering the idea of theological discourse as performative and transformative it only seemed right that I endeavor to exemplify this, rather than merely describe it.

While I am currently working on a more theoretical book (provisionally entitled Before the Beginning) this work, and hopefully the pub tour that follows in its wake, are designed to incarnate the theory and render it accessible to a much larger audience (which is where I really need your help).

Anyway, here is another reading from the book. This is a parable entitled, ‘God Joins the Army’ (music by rothko),

The poetics of the impossible at work. Thank you – and I’d like to ask about your choice of language. I’m committed to using inclusive language for God in all mediums, and I find it particularly powerful in narrative reimaginings. Was there intentionality in your use of masculine language here?

A more theoretical book, eh? Are you looking to integrate a larger dose of psychoanalysis into this book then your previous two works?

Another powerful parable; I’m looking forward to reading the new book.
I sure hope the pub tour will bring you to the Chicago area.

“God is always on the side of the oppressed” so good, so gospel.

also, for someone who likes telling stories you’re pretty skinny on the fiction front in your book list.
    just sayin’.

:) hey Angela. My friends are always berating me for this! Some of they have tried in vain to get me to read fiction, but bar a few of the classics I have not got into fiction. Not enough hours in the day. In my defense I would say that parables don’t require much literary flare… they are spare narratives. However I am keen to write a novel (indeed started one a while back).

Hey Pete, I was wondering if there’s anyway I could get a copy of your dissertaton?

    Thanks,
